Tic-Tac-Toe Robot Team Project
This project was our final exam for the class Design of Mechatronic Systems. We (team of four) designed and built this project in three weeks while juggling other engineering coursework and exams. Our project uses three motors and an electromagnet to create a robotic arm capable of picking up and dropping magnetic game pieces. We used Hall effect sensors to sense where pieces are placed and created a user interface from an LCD screen and buttons.
My contributions:
- Came up with the idea to use magnetic game pieces, an electromagnet end effector, and Hall sensors to allow the robot to sense and manipulate game pieces
- Designed the three degree-of-freedom robotic arm and electromagnetic end effector
- Selected the electronic components: stepper motor, servo motors, electromagnet, Arduino, motor controller, Hall effect sensors
- 3D printed, laser cut, and assembled the mechanical parts of the project
- Assisted with writing code in C++ to control the robot
